A little about Dave
Dave is a native Californian currently living in Riverside. Dave began photography as a hobbyist in the 1960's when he was given a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye. His passion for photography as a non-verbal form of communication grows with each new assignment.
Dave’s work is inspired by the beauty, diversity and intricacy of nature. “The best compliment I can receive is when someone is inspired by one of my images to get outdoors and experience the beauty in nature.”
Dave travels throughout California to capture images. “My favorite location is the Northern California coast but I find beautiful landscapes all over the state.”
Dave is influenced by many of the “old” masters, to include Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Edward Weston, Margaret Bourke-White, Paul Strand and many others. “John Sexton is responsible for cementing my relationship with photography. John introduced me to Ansel Adams and gave me the opportunity to spend an afternoon with Ansel in his home.” John’s book “Quiet Light” is among Dave’s favorites.
Dave's educational background includes an Associate of Arts from Orange Coast College and Bachelor's degree in photography from California State University at Fullerton. He has also participated in numerous workshops over the years. Dave began a career in photography as a photojournalist. He received numerous professional association awards as a newspaper photographer, writer and editor. He is a member of the The Arts Colony, Redwood Art Association, Riverside Community Arts Association, the Sebastopol Center for the Arts and the Sonoma County Woodworker's Association.
Dave's photographs have been shown in juried exhibitions in California and are included in private collections worldwide. Dave has donated use of selected images to the Point Cabrillo Lightkeeper’s Foundation and the California State Parks Foundation. Dave is a strong supporter of public parks and promotes them with his images. He has received several awards from the California State Parks Foundation for his images.
